EMPOWERING YOUNG CREATIVES: INSIGHTS FROM THE WORKSHOP AT THE AMERICAN CORNER, NIPA LUSAKA

By Memory Sampa - NAMA PS

A vibrant and engaging workshop recently took place at the American Corner located at the Zambia Institute of Public Administration (ZIPA) in Lusaka, bringing together aspiring creatives, media practitioners, and young professionals eager to sharpen their skills and expand their understanding of the creative and information space.

The session created a dynamic learning environment where participants were exposed to practical knowledge, industry insights, and real-world experiences drawn from media, storytelling, and creative production. Facilitators emphasized the importance of discipline, consistency, and adaptability in today’s rapidly evolving creative industry.

One of the key highlights of the workshop was the interactive nature of the discussions. Participants were not only passive listeners but were actively engaged through questions, group exercises, and open dialogue. This approach allowed for a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the creative sector, especially in Zambia’s growing media landscape.

Topics covered included content development, storytelling techniques, production basics, and the role of digital platforms in shaping modern narratives. There was also strong emphasis on the importance of preserving culture through media and using available tools to document and share African stories in authentic and impactful ways.

The facilitators encouraged participants to see creativity not just as talent, but as a professional discipline that requires planning, collaboration, and continuous learning. They also highlighted the importance of leveraging available spaces like the American Corner at NIPA as hubs for knowledge exchange and capacity building.

Participants left the workshop motivated and equipped with new perspectives on how to approach their creative journeys. Many expressed appreciation for the practical nature of the training and the opportunity to engage directly with industry practitioners.

Overall, the workshop reaffirmed the importance of investing in young creatives and creating platforms where skills development can thrive. Initiatives like these continue to play a vital role in strengthening Zambia’s creative economy and nurturing the next generation of storytellers, filmmakers, and media professionals.

As the creative sector continues to grow, such engagements remain essential in bridging the gap between talent and opportunity, ensuring that young people are not only inspired but also equipped to turn their ideas into impactful work. For NAMA Corresponce Contact +260 980585812
